Genetically Modified Food

The Rowett Research Institute today (Tuesday May 18) noted the publication of reports on genetically modified food by the Royal Society of London and the House of Commons Select Committee on Science and Technology.

A spokesman for the Institute said: "We have not yet been able to study the reports in detail, however, we will examine them with interest.

"In February, the Institute announced its intention to seek an independent review of Dr Pusztai's work. We therefore welcome the publication of the Royal Society's report, coming as it does from a respected and independent body with such a wealth of scientific expertise. It is our hope that the publication of these two reports will allow the Institute to draw a line under the events of the past 10 months.

"Due note will be made of any recommendations in the reports and we will then concentrate on moving forward to develop our world-renowned scientific programmes aimed at understanding the mechanisms of a beneficial diet."
