What happens when your DNA gets broken?

Let's take a CLOSER look at DNA

The DNA ladder is made up of only FOUR different rungs or BASES. Each of the bases is called after a letter

In the DNA ladder the A base ALWAYS lines up with the
T base and the G base ALWAYS lines up with the C base.

In the picture you can see that the green and yellow rungs always line up together and the blue and red rungs are always together

The way these letters are arranged in DNA makes up the instructions or GENETIC BLUEPRINT for making a WHOLE PERSON.
Broken DNA can come in lots of different types.
Sometimes the DNA ladder rungs get mixed up or even lost. These are called MUTATIONS
Sometimes the DNA ladder itself gets snapped and this is called a DNA BREAK.

Sometimes the DNA just breaks into very very little bits. This is called APOPTOSIS

Sometimes a bit of one chromosome drops off or even sticks onto the wrong chromosome! This is called TRANSLOCATION.
