Scope of the conference

The overall aim of the conference is to promote understanding of the complex microbial ecosystems that are present in the digestive tract of man and animals, and their interactions with the host. It is therefore of interest to those working to improve human and animal health and nutrition through dietary manipulation, and to any scientist concerned with the microbial ecology of the digestive tract and the interplay between micro-organisms and their hosts.

Topics to be addressed will include:

bullet Microbial diversity in health and disease
bullet Response of the gut microbiota to dietary change
bullet Microbial metabolism of dietary components
bullet Mechanisms of action of pro- and prebiotics
bullet Influence of the gut microbiota on host energy metabolism and weight control
bullet Microbial interactions with the immune system
bullet Application of metagenomics and metabolomics
